Easter Egg Hunt

Monday, April 10, 2023

Twelve miniature cowboy hats with eggs have been hidden in various locations across the city.

Each hat and egg has a different message, related to the location of the egg.

How the hunt works

Instructions

The goal is to collect  the most photos of hats + eggs in their locations, and post them to Twitter, Instagram, Mastodon, or TikTok. And their messages. Get all twelve and you may find yourself starring in an ad promoting the issue of your choice in this election!

The hunt begins at 10 am.
A new clue will be released every hour after that.
Congratulations/confirmation notices will go live at 20 minutes past each hour to prevent peeking ahead at the next answer.

Monthly we gather
To recognize the dead
With uncertain numbers

And grief in our heads.

Here is the twelfth clue:

Here is the eleventh clue:

absolutely gorgeous view
in the shadow of the towers
near the water
just down from the flowers

figures in despair
line this stunning site
reaching up to the sky
In misery and fright

here we welcomed thousands
when we were just small
and treated strangers better
than we treat residents, all

A wee tiny park
So small you’d miss it every day
On the main west end drag
Cute townhomes and cafes

And for months and months,
A young indigenous man
who couldn’t leave his tiny shelter
without a solid plan

we sat with him for months
til they drove him out to Trenton
he dealt with so much pressure
too much to mention

he’s still in a park
but not this one
no homes here anymore
Just green grass under the sun

Here is the tenth clue:

Here is the ninth clue:

What is a park?
Is it grass, trees, public space?

Or is it marks
fencing
construction
excuses
obstruction
delays

No ccess
no fun
no vibes
no mood

Let’s do a pilot
and see what that proves

You saw the images. Everyone did.
Horses. Pepper spray
Batons
Even kettling on that day.

Until that day no one knew this name
Or the place
Now the name lives in infamy
Of beatings and mace

You’ll find this egg
Where people used to live
No one has lived there since that day
Too much pain and too many f$&@s to give

Here is the eighth clue:

Here is the seventh clue:

There’s no place more Toronto than this
Tennis courts, rolling green lawns, trees
And for several years at least
Tents parked so that people could get some sleep.

You may have seen the pictures
Of police in riot gear
Maybe they were after the squirrel
That also lives somewhat infamously here

The tents are all gone now
But the scars remain
Of a city that can be brutal
And treat the most vulnerable with disdain.

The city’s most beautiful flowers
Are found in this park
As are the city’s most beautiful people
Who live in tents in the dark.

Almost daily, police come by
Raze those tents, take them away
It means beginning from scratch
At the start of every day.

Look up at the trees
So beautiful and free
And ask yourself why
The blue tent is key

Many mayors in Toronto,
And she’s the one here
Find her tent and find the egg
And say hello, she’s a dear

Here is the
sixth clue:

Here is the fifth clue:

He’s Brad! He’s out there
Looking for your votes
The TTC commish
Who says that everything’s broke.

Service reductions
Fare increases
Fare inspectors
Don’t help the people who need it

You’ll find this egg
In the heart of Bradland
There’s even a pic
If you get lost in the badlands

The Speaker recognizes
The councillor from Nowhere
The Councillor rises to thank
Someone for their hard work and care

There’s always lots going on
But never an increase in tax
No one unhoused is recognized
They get kicked out in packs

You’ll find this egg
In the heart of Toronto
In more ways than one
Get yourself there pronto

Here is the fourth clue:

Here is the third clue:

What’s it like
To always be an afterthought?
To be so close to the action
But never where it’s hot.

It’s a part of the city
But feels so removed
It’s like a different country
And the funding is proof

No transit investment here
No long promised transit
Not for about seven years
You’re on the bus til then.

You’ll find this egg
At a place of much hope
A functioning GO Station
But LRT? Nope.

At the beginning of corona
People needed safety
They got something else
Something that felt a bit cagey

It was to be respite
A place for weary heads
It became a flashpoint
For fear and dread instead

Sirens and ambulances
In the middle of midtown
Eventually led to
The hotel being shut down

Here is the second clue:

Here is the first clue:

I’m right downtown
in the heart of the city
such an odd thing,
in a place so gritty

Most who work here live more than an hour away
full of fortune and Sunshine
(67% of them, to be precise)
Though some still surely whine

You’ll find me near
Hated transportation
Well, loved by some
But not by Ford Nation (2/2)
