You’re at Trinity Bellwoods.

One winter I met a man outside 50 Oak. He was just sitting in the cold outside looking shell-shocked, stunned. It was -20, the middle of February. The man had just gotten out of prison and had no money and nowhere to go.

I took him to Trinity Bellwoods and introduced him to the unofficial mayor; I knew they would take good care of him. They did. They found him somewhere to sleep. They got him something to eat. They made him feel welcome and human. Why doesn’t the city operate the same way?

There’s a vision for this city.

We need a Toronto that treats all its citizens as human beings, first and foremost. When did you last feel respected, even understood, by the politicians at City Hall?

In a City as wealthy as this, leaving our neighbours to live without dignity, on the streets, under overpasses, and in cramped, often dangerous and unhealthy shelters is unconscionable. We must do better. So many of us are no more than a missed paycheck away from an N4, a Notice To End Tenancy.

We need to move at “war-time speed” to provide safe, accessible, dignified housing for Torontonians who currently have no options, rather than sending armed thugs to destroy their last remaining possessions.

Build more housing. Density density density.
